Job Description:
As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will facilitate clear and accurate munication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who do not use sign language. You will interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, ensuring that munication is effective, efficient, and culturally sensitive. This role will involve interpreting in various settings, including meetings, presentations, educational settings, and events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret between spoken language and American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign languages, depending on the needs of clients.
- Provide interpretation in a variety of settings, including meetings, conferences, classrooms, medical appointments, and munity events.
- Work closely with clients to understand their preferences for munication styles and ensure they are fortable during interactions.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity, ensuring respectful munication between all parties.
- Continuously improve and stay updated on ASL and interpretation practices.
- Collaborate with team members, educators, or healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of munication in different contexts.
Qualifications:
- Certification from a recognized interpreting organization (e.g., RID Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, NAD National Association of the Deaf).
- Proven experience interpreting in various settings (medical, educational, legal, etc.).
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign languages (based on client needs).
- Strong munication skills, with the ability to convey messages accurately and clearly.
- Knowledge of deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs and preferences of the deaf and hard-of-hearing munity.
- High attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
