Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need:
The Newcomer EL English Language Arts Classroom Teacher will be directly responsible to the building principal for all matters pertaining to the operation of the school plan, in-building administrative and personnel precedures, and general or district-wide policies. He/She will be indirectly responsible to the Director of English Language Learner Programs for all matters pertaining to curriculum, instructional methods, assessment and materials. They will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the EL/Bilingual Education Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To be present with students during all instructional and supervisory times.
To provide for English Learner scaffolding and Native Language Support to students including differentiation and modification of materials.
Provide instruction and support to students following a prescribed newcomer curriculum and curricular materials; implement instructional routines and learning strategies as outlined in curriculum and as presented in professional development sessions.
Plan and implement daily lesson plans utilizing summer newcomer program. Monitor and record student progress; submit daily attendance.
Prepare the assigned classroom to encourage engaged, collaborative learning. Participate in all program evaluations including progress monitoring and required assessment(s).
Follow daily schedule as outlined.
Communicate with parents as necessary and as required.
Provide student supervision as required during student arrival and dismissal times.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Professional Educators License, with English Language Arts endorsement 6-8.
- ESL endorsement required.
- Bilingual endorsement preferred.
- Experience teaching ESL preferred.
Salary: Per current hourly wages for teachers and is grant funded year-to-year.

Required Staff Development May 28, 2025 (8:30 am - 2:00 pm)
Student attendance dates: June 3 through June 26, 2025
No student attendance June 19 in observance of Juneteenth
PreK-8th Grade Student hours: 8:30 am - 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday
PreK-8th Grade Staff hours: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm Monday through Thursday
60 Minutes - Paid plan time included in staff time
