About the role
- Forterra is seeking a Mapping and Localization Engineer to join our team in developing robust and innovative localization systems for autonomous systems. The ideal candidate has a strong software development background coupled with experience developing and optimizing algorithms for precise localization and mapping in dynamic environments.
What you"ll do
- Develop and implement algorithms for localization and mapping for autonomous ground vehicles, including techniques such as Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), visual odometry, and other advanced localization techniques.
- Design and optimize real-time systems for integrating data from various sensors, including LiDAR, radar, cameras, and IMUs for highly accurate vehicle localization and mapping.
- Enhance existing SLAM and mapping algorithms for dynamic environments, such as urban and off-road areas.
- Improve the vehicle"s ability to localize and map in GPS-denied or challenging conditions (e.g., tunnels, forests, crowded urban environments).
- Evaluate, test, and validate localization and mapping solutions through both simulation, playback, and field tests to ensure accuracy, robustness, and reliability.
Qualifications
- Experience designing and developing localization and mapping algorithms (e.g., Point cloud registration, SLAM, Visual Odometry).
- Experience with multiple sensor modalities such as LIDARs, cameras, RADARs, and IMUs.
- Strong background in linear algebra, computational mathematics.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, and/or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with state estimation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing localization/navigation systems for a variety of vehicles, including large trucks and small skid steer vehicles.
- Familiarity with industry-standard navigation software and hardware tools.
Education & Experience
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Engineering or related field
- 5+ yeas of relevant engineering experience
US Salary Range
$140,000—$210,000
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra's overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including:
