Overview
Camp Flintlock provides Colonial American field trips to schools, both at our Four Oaks, NC campsite and on school campuses from Maryland to Georgia. We provide a fun and educational experience of the colonial way of life in a family-friendly atmosphere. We also operate summer camps and support special events put on by private and state historic sites, and the National Park Service.
Positions
Our main position is the Historical Interpreter. The Historical Interpreter is entry level staff who under limited supervision perform the various educational and possibly clerical duties related to field trip operations. The minimum age to apply is 15 years of age. All Historical Interpreters will have access to our staff wardrobe. Full or part-time positions are available. All field trips occur on weekdays.
Camp Counselor is only active during summer camp. Many times our historical interpreters double as counselors. This is a part-time position.
Operations
Field Trips
Our local team handles events at our Four Oaks, NC campsite and in the Raleigh area, while our away team travels sometimes for a week at a time, in a five-state region (transportation provided from CF headquarters).
Summer Camp
We offer both day and residential camps. Currently, we host one half-week residential camp session for boys and another for girls. Day camps run Mon-Fri.
Most positions spend time outside and continue in all but extreme conditions (storms, high winds, extreme cold or heat, etc.).
Bringing our nation's history to life is fun, active, and rewarding!
Pay
Raises and biannual bonuses are available. Full-time applicants may be eligible for company housing at reduced rent. Lunch and transportation from headquarters is provided for all field trips. There is no specific educational or experience required. However, experience in historical interpretation, public speaking, and outdoor education is a plus.
Requirements: Applicants for Employee Positions:
- Away team must be willing to travel long distance (transportation provided from CF headquarters), and must be willing to possibly tent camp and work in all weather.
- Part-time applicants are not required to travel, but being willing to is a strong plus.
- Be willing to wear 18th century reproduction clothing (provided)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Enjoy working with school-age children
- Have a strong work ethic. (It is sometimes necessary to work longer hours to complete crucial tasks such as properly storing equipment after an event to avoid costly damage.)
- Be able to lift 30 lbs, stand for long periods, and manage rough/uneven terrain
- Be able to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere (we work with kids!)
- Be willing to participate in Revolutionary War-era reenactments, as Camp Flintlock is often invited to participate in such events, and hosts a Colonial Faire of our own annually
- Be willing to work with people of other religions, nationalities, races, gender, etc. without prejudice. There is a zero tolerance policy for discrimination.
The nature of this work does not require that employees adhere to any particular beliefs, but it does require that they be comfortable discussing and presenting--in a respectful manner--the beliefs held by our Founding Fathers.

- Two annual bonuses
- On the job training
