Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of ASL and a commitment to facilitating effective communication between Deaf and hearing individuals. As an ASL Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in bridging communication gaps, ensuring accessibility, and promoting inclusivity in various settings.

Responsibilities

Provide accurate interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa in diverse environments such as educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and community events.
Collaborate with clients to understand their specific communication needs and preferences, ensuring a tailored interpretation experience.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive information in various contexts.
Stay updated on current trends in linguistics and interpretation techniques to enhance service delivery.
Facilitate effective communication by employing appropriate non-verbal cues, body language, and facial expressions during interpretation sessions.
Work collaboratively with other interpreters and professionals to ensure seamless communication for all participants involved.
Engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills in ASL interpretation and related fields.
Foster an inclusive environment that respects cultural diversity and promotes understanding among all individuals.

Requirements

Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated experience in interpretation across various settings.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to effectively convey messages between Deaf and hearing individuals.
Bilingual capabilities are preferred; knowledge of additional languages is a plus for enhancing communication accessibility.
Familiarity with translation practices related to ASL and spoken languages is highly desirable.
A background in linguistics or related fields is advantageous for understanding language structure and nuances.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Certification from a recognized interpreting organization is preferred but not mandatory; relevant experience will be considered.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week

Work Location: In person
