Overview
- We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and demonstrate the ability to effectively interpret and translate spoken language into sign language. This role is essential in ensuring all parties communicate clearly and efficiently in various educational, medical, and community settings.
Responsibilities
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Translate ASL into spoken language for hearing individuals, ensuring accurate communication.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive information.
- Collaborate with other interpreters and professionals to provide comprehensive communication support.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet the needs of different settings and audiences.
- Stay updated on best practices in interpreting and relevant laws or regulations changes.
- Provide support in multilingual environments when necessary, utilizing additional language skills as appropriate.
Requirements
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required; certification as an interpreter is preferred.
- Experience interpreting or translating in various contexts (educational, medical, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and accurately.
- Multilingual or bilingual abilities are a plus, enhancing the capacity to serve diverse populations.
- Knowledge of linguistics and cultural nuances related to deaf communities is beneficial.
- Strong technical skills and familiarity with virtual platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.
- High-speed internet connection capable of supporting seamless video and audio communication.
- A clean background check, ensuring eligibility for work in sensitive environments.
- Ability to work flexible hours based on client needs, including evenings or weekends if necessary.
