About This Role
Responsible for driving sustainable and cost saving initiatives across the mine by identifying, developing and implementing continuous improvement interventions. The role focuses on enhancing productivity, reducing costs, improving safety performance and optimizing processes, methodologies and associated techniques, in line with the company’s short to medium-term business and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all improvement initiatives align with health, safety and environmental standards, reinforcing a zero-harm culture within mining operations.
- Identify and prioritize Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities aligned with operational value drivers
- Facilitate monthly stretch target setting with the CI team
- Validate and align CI priorities with operational and business objectives
- Communicate CI targets, priorities and performance expectations to all stakeholders
- Develop CI policies and procedures that support short‑term and long‑term operational requirements.
- Conduct periodic reviews and updates of CI policies.
- Ensure alignment of CI policies and procedures with the mine’s operational objectives.
- Engage key departmental personnel to identify high‑value improvement opportunities.
- Lead Improvement Generation Sessions (IGSs) and collaborate with departments for idea development.
- Provide analytical and implementation support to Idea Owners throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work with Idea Owners to quantify, document, implement and monitor CI ideas.
- Initiate CI projects, ideas, strategies and improvement methodologies that deliver measurable value.
- Identify deviations in processes and recommend corrective or enhancement actions.
- Benchmark key process performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement and maintain an effective system for tracking CI results and project benefits.
- Conduct regular assessments of improvement performance across the operation.
- Provide relevant input into PIP appraisals as required.
- Establish and maintain strong communication channels between departments, sections, and contractors.
- Ensure timely, transparent, and accurate documentation and dissemination of Continuous improvement related information.
- Ensure validation and implementation of Six Sigma and other CI methodologies.
- Maintain the infrastructure, tools and technologies supporting CI (e.g., Six Sigma, PIP).
- Promote CI initiatives and drive awareness of their benefits across the operation.
- Ensure CI initiatives achieve significant cost reductions and efficiency improvements.
- Implement systems to track and validate project benefits (ROI and operational gains).
- Develop a strong understanding of improvement concepts and tools through guidance from the Business Coach.
- Support localization and adaptation of improvement tools for site‑specific needs.
- Manage the CI Analyst’s work plan and priorities.
- Lead the CI team’s daily activities, weekly reviews and overall performance.
Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies
- Bachelors degree in Mining Engineering, Minerals Engineering, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Continuous Improvement, Engineering or Technical leadership within a mining environment.
- Results‑oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and decision‑making capability.
- Demonstrated experience implementing Lean Six Sigma or similar improvement methodologies.
- Proven track record in leading multi‑disciplinary teams and managing multiple work streams.
- Strong Project Management skills, including planning, prioritizing and execution.
- Understanding of mining business processes and operational value drivers.
- Knowledge and application of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
- Strong financial judgment and ability to assess ROI and cost‑benefit outcomes.
- Ability to develop and implement best practice processes and standards.
- Ability to guide and coach operational personnel on CI and Sustainable Development matters.
