Job Title: Interpreter for Bridge Refugee Resettlement
Location: Knoxville, TN
Bridge Refugee Services is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to supporting refugees and immigrants as they build new lives in our community. We provide essential services, including resettlement assistance, legal support, and integration programs. Our mission is to ensure every individual and family receives the resources and support they need to thrive in their new home.
Position Overview: We are seeking skilled interpreters to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong language proficiency and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by refugees. This role is pivotal in bridging communication gaps between our clients and service providers, ensuring that language barriers do not hinder access to critical services. This is a contract position in which you will be paid for hours worked. The hours are not fixed, but are on an "as needed" basis.
Interpretation Needed for the Following Languages:
- Spanish
- Dari
- Pashto
- Arabic
- Kinyarwanda
- Swahili
- Kigegere
- Ukrainian
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation services for clients during meetings, appointments, and various interactions with service providers.
- Assist with translation of written materials, including legal documents, informational brochures, and program guidelines.
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between clients and our staff, ensuring that clients’ needs and concerns are clearly understood and addressed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, adhering to ethical standards of interpretation and client privacy.
- Support clients in understanding complex processes and navigating the resettlement system, including legal, medical, and educational systems.
- Collaborate with case managers and other staff to identify and address communication barriers and improve service delivery.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in the required and proficiency in English.
- Proven experience in interpretation, preferably in a social services or refugee support context.
- Strong understanding of cultural nuances and the challenges faced by refugees.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.
- High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and client needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations.
- Knowledge of resettlement processes and related social services.
- Experience using WhatsApp and other common means of communication
- Preference will be given to candidates who have availability during daytime hours.
