Job Summary:
A Clinical Interpreter at BEH Campus is responsible for translating and interpreting medical and other information regarding the patient's care between the medical/clinical staff and the patient/family.
Education:
Required:
High School diploma
Preferred:
College degree in Spanish or desired language.
Experience:
Required:
Evidence of expertise with clients of limited English proficiency (LEP). Must be fluent in Spanish.
Preferred:
Previous work in the medical field and/or knowledge of medical terminology

Required:
Competency Test required within 6 months - 1 year of employment; must demonstrate an overall rating of Meet Expectations (ME) or Exceeds Expectations (EE) as a Clinical Interpreter.
Preferred:
Certification as a clinical interpreter.
Department Position Summary:
Responsible for Spanish interpretation and translation services for BEH Campus and outlying campuses of Erlanger for patients and/or families with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) interacting with the medical/clinical staff. Ability to develop rapport with families is essential. Must demonstrate independence and professional judgment as determinations are made regarding priorities of care and service to families. Demonstration of language and vocabulary proficiency with clinical/medical terminology is essential. Excellent English and Spanish written and verbal skills required. Must have a working knowledge of the CQI process and an ability to collect, organize and interpret statistics with recommendations to management. Must organize and present staff and patient education. Competency/certification as a clinical interpreter required within six (6) months to one year of employment. Must possess excellent time management, organizational and planning skills with an aptitude for details. Must have complete understanding and coherence to the ethics of interpretation. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of cultural dynamics and the ability to communicate such to the hospital staff. Discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality required. Ability to prioritize and manage numerous requests simultaneously.
