Job Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Sign Language Interpreter Teacher to join our dedicated team in a fully remote role for the remainder of the academic year. In this position, you will play a vital role in providing educational support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, facilitating effective communication and learning through American Sign Language (ASL). Your passion for education and commitment to student success will be essential in this impactful role.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver sign language interpretation services during online classes, meetings, and educational activities to ensure effective communication.
Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and other education professionals to meet the academic needs of students.
Modify teaching materials and methodologies to accommodate the diverse requirements of students in a virtual environment.
Track and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and relevant parties.
Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance, progress, and communication assignments.

Required Skills

Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a solid understanding of deaf culture and communication methods.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster meaningful connections with students, parents, and colleagues.
Excellent organizational capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
Comfort in utilizing technology for remote teaching and communication.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Sign Language Interpretation, or a related field.
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or an equivalent credential.
Prior experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational context is preferred.
Active licensure in the state of Virginia.
A minimum EIPA score of 3.5 with a passed written examination.
