Summary

Provides translation-interpreter services for Spanish-speaking patients and their families, as needed throughout the UNC Healthcare System.

MUST BE ABLE TO PASS AN ADVANCED MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY PROFICIENCY TEST

WORK LOCATION: UNC MEDICAL CENTER, 101 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514

Responsibilities

Maintains records related to translation requests and documents the nature of requests in patients? medical records
Provides accurate face to face medical interpretation between Spanish speaking patients and staff in a variety of settings within UNC HealthCare.
Serves as an advocate for Spanish speaking patients and their families assisting in the coordination of health needs. Assists care providers in understanding the Hispanic culture.
Translates and maintains UNC HealthCare printed material into Spanish. Actively searches for existing Spanish language materials pertaining to health care and hospitalization.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification Requirements

No licensure or certification required.

Professional Experience Requirements

One (1) year of experience in a health care or human services setting.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements

Demonstrates a fluency in the Spanish and English languages. Possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
