POSITION SUMMARY
An Independent Contractor Interpreter for Volatia Language Network, Inc. is responsible for providing professional language interpretation services during scheduled sessions for our medical, legal, and educational clients. Interpreters must maintain a high level of accuracy, proficiency, and professionalism while adhering to strict confidentiality and ethical standards. This role is vital in bridging language barriers and supporting effective communication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

Deliver accurate, meaning-for-meaning interpretation in real-time during phone and video calls.
Adhere to Volatia’s protocols and procedures as well as client-specific guidelines.
Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold interpreter ethics as outlined in Volatia’s policies.
Continuously improve vocabulary and knowledge of specialized subject matter, including medical, legal, and educational terminology.
Utilize and maintain familiarity with necessary interpreting equipment and technology.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Fluency in English and at least one other target language.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and the target language.
Basic understanding of linguistics, cultural differences, and interpretation techniques.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and manage sensitive information with discretion.
React calmly and effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism.
Skilled at working independently while following established protocols and procedures.
Proficiency with standard office equipment, such as telephones, computers, and video conferencing tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

Demonstrated interpretation experience (e.g., medical, court, or government interpretation).
Completion of professional interpreter certification or training

Preferred:

A two- to four-year degree in interpretation or a related field.
Higher education coursework taught in English or the target language.
Experience in relevant industries such as healthcare, legal, or social services.

As an Independent Contractor Interpreter for Volatia Language Network, Inc., you will not be an employee but will function as a 1099 contractor, providing language interpretation services on an as-needed basis.
