SUMMARY: Responsible for all aspects of the Court’s Interpreter Services. Reports to the Deputy Court Administrator Human Resources. Plans, directs, coordinates, tracks and maintains interpreter scheduling as required for courtroom appearances, video conferencing and general communications for the Court of Common Pleas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Interprets in open court and for other departments and agencies for non-English speaking individuals.

· Interprets, from English to Spanish, questions asked of non-English speaking person both in person, video or telephone.

· Translates various correspondences such as documents, notices, pamphlets for non-English speaking clients.

· Interprets written or spoken instructions for a non-English speaking persons.

· Prepares weekly reports and meets regularly with the Deputy Court Administrator to discuss the ever-changing needs of the Court and the current work in progress.

· Travels throughout the County to the District Courts as needed.

· Serves as the Language Access Coordinator and Language Access Plan trainer for the Court and Court related departments.

· Schedule interpreters throughout the court system as needed. Keeps a record of the requests for interpreters’ as well as assignments.

· Process billing invoices for outside interpreters.

· Coordinate scheduling with the prison, Sheriff’s Department and Public Defender on a daily basis for Bench Warrants.

· Maintains confidentiality of information acquired during interpretation session as required by the professional code of ethics.

· Interpret for Children and Youth hearings as needed.

· Obeys all safety rules and regulations.

· Performs similar or related duties as required. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. · A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Or one to two years of experience providing interpreter services in a judicial setting; or graduation from a recognized training program for interpreters. Or any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Seventh Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

· Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

· Extensive knowledge of language translation practices and techniques of language.

· Considerable knowledge of colloquialisms, idiomatic expressions of language specialty.

· Fluent in Spanish.

· AOPC certified for interpreting Spanish.

· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed in the course of work.

· Considerable knowledge of accepted ethical standards, applicable statutes or rules governing interpreters, and medical and legal terminology.

· Ability to exercise judgement to assess whether communication is being understood or not.

· Ability to maintain impartiality regarding the setting and/or persons involved.

· Ability to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders and the public.

· Ability to work under pressure and handle constant interruptions.

· Ability to interpret for long periods of time.

· Confidential, well-organized individual with ability to pay attention to detail.

· Familiar with court terms and procedures.

· Must be proficient and have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
