About

Hello, my name is Alessia and I am an Italian Translator specialised in Audiovisual accessibility.
In 2022 I started researching Audio description at the University of Turin as part of my MA thesis. In 2023, I had my first experience with AD by attending the Accessible Filmmaking Training and Internship at +culturaaccessibile, where I created the Italian AD and SDH subtitles for the Italian film "Il medico della Mutua" (Be Sick... It's Free, 1968) and gained experience with subtitling software such as Aegisub. At that point, I was fully committed to audio description and I decided to take the ADLAB PRO course, funded by the European Union, which is dedicated to AD and its various forms, as well as valuable interviews with blind and visually impaired people and organizations throughout Europe.

In 2024 I graduated with honors from the University of Turin with a Master's degree in Translation Studies. My Master's thesis was on the use of translation strategies to create the Italian audio description of the children's animated film Disney-Pixar Luca, also adapted to the most recent guidelines such as those of Netflix (2023), among others. Some of the results of my research were presented at the InCinema Festival, the first Italian festival of accessible cinema, held in Turin in January 2024. Since July 2024 I have had the privilege to work with Mr. Eraldo Busarello. He is the blind founder of the first AD provider in Italy: Senza Barriere Onlus, founded in 1992. Under his guidance I learned what a blind person expects from an audio description and I completed my first professional scripts ready for human voice recording. Since September 2024, I have also been working with IDC NY, creating the audio description scripts for the fantasy and adrenaline TV series The Witcher, broadcast on Netflix. I managed to write scripts for all three seasons, for a total of 24 episodes.
