As we expand, we are seeking experienced Spanish interpreters to join our team, specifically supporting Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and other academic settings.
Job Description
As a Spanish Education Interpreter, you will bridge communication gaps between Spanish-speaking families and school staff, ensuring equitable access to educational resources and services. Your role will primarily focus on interpreting for IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other academic engagements, fostering a collaborative and inclusive educational environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and professional consecutive and simultaneous interpretation during IEP meetings, evaluations, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Interpret academic terminology and concepts to ensure clarity for Spanish-speaking families.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards, including the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Education.
- Collaborate with educators and administrators to support student success.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant documents and understanding the context of each session.
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with strong interpretation skills.
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly for IEP meetings and related school functions.
- Familiarity with educational terminology and procedures, especially IEP processes.
- Completion of formal interpreter training (minimum 40 hours preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Professional demeanor, punctuality, and a commitment to cultural sensitivity.
Requirements
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Flexibility to travel to schools in the Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs.
- Availability during school hours, with occasional assignments before or after standard hours.
- Experience with remote platforms like Zoom or Google Meet is a plus.
