Main Responsibilities:
- Must be capable of providing interpreting services through various modes of sign language and adapting to language preferences, to include American Sign Language (ASL), English interpretation, transliteration, contact sign/Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and oral transliteration
- Thorough knowledge of and adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Adhere to the Center for Independent Living of South Florida Interpreting policies and procedures
- Provide interpreting services for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing customers in a variety of settings, including but not limited to business, social, performance, medical, legal, etc.
- Provide effective communication to all parties involved
- Demonstrate American Sign Language and spoken English skills across all registers
- Ability to collaborate in a professional manner with all parties involved
- Complete required paperwork and data entry in a timely fashion
- Other duties as assigned
Certified individuals by the organizations below are preferred:
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) - National Interpreter Certification (NIC) at any level (NIC, NIC Advanced or NIC Master level)
- National Association of the Deaf (NAD) - Level III (Generalist), Level IV (Advanced), or Level V (Master)
(Transliteration/Interpreting) combined with a minimum of 3 years of interpreting experience
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Possess fluent and effective ASL and English language skills
- Exhibit and maintain professional and ethical behavior at all times according to the RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Reliable transportation
- Fluency in Spanish or Creole is a plus
- Must be 18 years old or older to apply
