Position Overview
Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking a passionate and dedicated World Language Teacher to develop and lead an engaging language program for students in grades 9-12. The ideal candidate will foster a love for language learning while building students' linguistic proficiency and cultural awareness. This role includes curriculum development, differentiated instruction, and integration of authentic cultural experiences to enhance students’ global perspectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum & Instruction
Implement a comprehensive K-12 world language curriculum aligned with state and national standards.
Teach one or more world languages (e.g., Spanish, French, Mandarin, etc.), focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Use a variety of instructional strategies, including immersive language techniques, project-based learning, and technology integration.
Foster cultural appreciation by incorporating literature, music, art, and history from diverse regions where the language is spoken.
Student Engagement & Development
Create an engaging and supportive classroom environment that encourages risk-taking and language exploration.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students at varying proficiency levels.
Support students in developing conversational fluency and confidence in real-world language use.
Provide opportunities for students to engage in cultural experiences, language clubs, and international learning activities.
Classroom & Resource Management
Maintain a well-organized classroom environment that supports language acquisition.
Utilize digital tools and language-learning applications to enhance instruction.
Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
Collaboration & School Engagement
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate world languages across subject areas.
Partner with school leadership to strengthen language program offerings and expand cultural initiatives.
Participate in school-wide events, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Engage families and the community in language learning and cultural events.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in World Languages, Language Education, Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Massachusetts teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain certification) in the designated language.
Fluency in the target language(s) and strong understanding of second language acquisition methodologies.
2+ years of experience teaching world languages, preferably in a K-12 educational setting.
Experience developing and implementing a culturally responsive language curriculum.
Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
Passion for language education and a commitment to the mission of Codman Academy.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall success of Codman Academy.
