Role:ASL Language Expert
Language Proficiency:Bachelor's Degree in ASL Interpretation or a related field
Duration of the Project: Until the end of May
Experience:Minimum 1 year of experience in academic environments
Employment:Freelance contract
Payment Terms:30-45 days from the receipt of the invoice; additional 1 hour paid for transport reimbursement
Scope of Work:
This position is responsible for facilitating communication between users of English (spoken and/or written) and users of sign language, including American Sign Language (ASL) and English-based sign systems. Interpreters provide individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind with appropriate access to classroom instruction and communication with all school staff and students. Additionally, interpreters assist individuals in learning to use an interpreter, developing self-advocacy skills, and fostering independence across all settings as appropriate.
Additional Information:
Interpreting can be on-site or via Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). Interpreters preferably should be based in Columbia, South Carolina. Currently, the position is for backup of current interpreters, with a target for full-time availability in the future.
