Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· 1 Year of Experience as a medical interpreter
· Nationally certified at the time of hire or must obtain certification within the first year of employment (Spoken Language Interpreters must be nationally certified through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI)
· Must complete or have completed Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter specific proficiency testing and training upon hire.
Key Responsibilities:
· Facilitates communication between LEP patients and LMC staff/providers by interpreting spoken messages.
· Bridges cultural and linguistic barriers while adhering to professional interpreter standards.
· Provides sight translation of materials to enhance patient and family understanding of medical procedures, treatment, and care instructions.
· Supports patient comprehension of discharge instructions, education, and follow-up care.
