Job Summary
The Dena'ina Language Instruction Coordinator (DLIC) will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of efforts between project personnel, volunteers, contractors, and resources to ensure projects and classes are on track. The DLIC will design, develop, test, and refine instructional module materials which support Dena'ina language learning and teaching activities. The DLIC will collaborate with the Dena'ina Language Institute and Dena'ina Culture Center team to coordinate and co-instruct language and culture classes. The DLIC will coordinate the Dena'ina Language and Culture classes taught to Tribal programs and community partners.
Essential Functions
- Collaborates with Dena'ina Language Institute and Culture Center Managers to align language work with Kenaitze Indian Tribe's mission and vision
- Collects, analizes and interprets language instructor data to monitor success
- Leads Dena'ina language work as a learner, teacher, and innovator
- Monitors language instruction program implementation
- Learns and then trains language instructor staff in Second Language Acquisition strategies, methods, techniques and approaches
- Facilitates and aligns Blended Learning approach, Dena'ina Language curriculum, and resources
- Supports language and instructional development of all learners
- Creates and refines instructor materials, rubrics, and processes to ensure program reproducibility of Language Instructor Program
- Engages in continuous improvement coaching cycles with Language learners, staff, and students
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, or a combination of education and experience in Dena'ina culture and language may be substituted for a degree
- Successful completion of Dena'ina Language Teacher Apprenticeship requirements
Experience
- Two (2) years teaching adults
- Two (2) years teaching youth
- Dena'ina cultural practices and traditions
- Dena'ina language and literacy
Preferred
- Bilingual (preferably skills in other Alaska Dene languages)
- Coursework in Dena'ina language acquisition
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
License/Certification
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or obtain within 90 days of hire
Special Skills

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
- Creative design skills for developing curriculum

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
