Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between deaf and hearing individuals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and be adept at translating spoken language into sign language and vice versa. This role is crucial in ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in various settings, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and community events.
Duties
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals during meetings, classes, or events.
- Translate ASL back into spoken language for hearing individuals to ensure clear communication.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while interpreting sensitive or confidential information.
- Collaborate with educators, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to understand the context of the communication.
- Adapt interpretation style to suit the needs of the audience, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Stay updated on best practices in interpretation and any changes in relevant laws or regulations.
Experience
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required; additional languages are a plus (bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply).
- Previous experience in interpretation or related fields is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong linguistic skills with an understanding of linguistics principles related to sign language.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and adapt to varying communication styles.

Pay: $24.88 - $48.00 per hour
