Mission & Role Summary
Join ITG’s nationwide network of professional interpreters supporting time-sensitive federal missions that depend on precise, impartial communication. We are expanding our roster of qualified Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to provide accurate, confidential, real-time interpreting for DHS/USCIS RAIO and other DHS components. The immediate priority is Spanish interpreters; additional opportunities exist in other languages.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver professional over-the-phone interpretation for legal, medical, and government assignments.
- Ensure fidelity of meaning, neutrality, and strict confidentiality on every call.
- Follow DHS and ITG standards for ethics, professionalism, data protection, and quality.
- Document required call details promptly and follow assignment-specific protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen/Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) with a continuous residence in the United States for the past three (3) years.
- Advanced proficiency in English and one target language (Spanish prioritized; other languages welcome).
- 3–5 years of professional interpreting experience (legal or medical preferred).
- Ability to obtain and/or maintain DHS suitability/clearance.
- Demonstrated reliability, professional phone etiquette, and commitment to confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior DHS or other U.S. government interpreting experience.
- Familiarity with federal security, privacy, and compliance protocols.
Work Environment & Scheduling
- Quiet, secure, and distraction-free workspace.
- Reliable high-speed internet and phone connectivity (landline or mobile).
- Flexible scheduling aligned to project needs and coverage windows.
Compensation
- Spanish: $20–$25/hour
- Senior (active DHS clearance): $30/hour
- Other languages: $35/hour
- Senior (active DHS clearance): $40/hour
