What You’ll Do
NPFE seeks a School Translator & Assistant to support second language learners across the building. The School Translator & Assistant will assist students in classrooms and non-classroom settings (front office, cafeteria, hallways, etc.), provide translation and interpretation services for families and staff, and support student language acquisition and academic success. This role is essential in bridging communication between home and school while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for English Learners.
Job Requirements
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, language studies, or a related field. Individuals without a degree and extensive experience will be considered.
Experience working with students in a classroom or school setting.
Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
Knowledge/Skills
General knowledge of instructional support strategies for English language learners.
Strong oral and written bilingual communication skills.
Ability to translate written materials and interpret verbal communication accurately.
General knowledge of classroom management and working with school-aged children.
Ability to operate classroom technology (Chromebooks, smartboards, etc.).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
Ability to maintain files, documents, and sensitive information with confidentiality.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist English Learners with lessons, comprehension and assignments, always pushing students toward English language acquisition and proficiency
Provide language support in classrooms, small groups, or one-on-one settings.
Translate and interpret between parents, teachers, and other staff during meetings, conferences, or daily interactions.
Translate written materials such as newsletters, permission slips, announcements, and other communications.
Support English Learners during lunch, recess, assemblies, arrival/dismissal, and other non-classroom times to encourage language acquisition and social integration.
Assist in preparing, modifying, and delivering instructional materials to meet the needs of English Learners.
Report student concerns directly and expeditiously to the teacher and assist with solutions under the direction of the principal or designee.
Escort and assist students as assigned by teacher or administrator.
Support school operations as needed, including the front office, arrival/dismissal procedures, the lunchroom, family events, student assessments and other school or student related activities as needed
Conduct meetings with parents or community as assigned
Perform other related duties as needed or assigned.
