Role Summary
TL;DR = International/localization engineer who can audit an existing setup (multiple engineering and localization team) and make recommendations for improvements and optimizations that lead to a robust, scaled setup.
We have a short term requirement for a Technical Localization Consultant to conduct an end-to-end audit of our localization pipeline and TMS. The consultant will recommend strategic improvements to ensure our processes are scalable, efficient, and ready to support future growth.
Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesInitially we are looking for a technical consultant to conduct the pipeline audit and deliver recommendations.

Pipeline Audit and Optimization StrategyCurrent State Analysis: Conduct a deep-dive technical audit of the existing end-to-end localization pipeline, including source code management, content delivery systems, CMS integrations, and internal tooling.
Stakeholder Interviews: Engage with development, product, design, and internal localization teams to map out technical dependencies, bottlenecks, and pain points in the current i18n/l10n workflows.
Internationalization Assessment: Evaluate the existing product architecture and codebases for adherence to internationalization best practices, identifying technical debt and risks.
Audit report : Provide a detailed summary that presents audit findings, quantifies the ROI of proposed process improvements, including the need to change or upgrade any connected systems such as the TMS. This proposal must be suitable for presentation to executive stakeholders.

TMS Evaluation and SelectionRequirements Definition: Collaborate with the Localization Manager to define detailed technical and operational requirements for the new TMS, focusing on API capabilities, connector ecosystem, automation features, and integration potential with existing systems (e.g. GitHub, Zendesk, Hubspot).
Vendor Vetting: Technically evaluate existing and alternative TMS platforms against defined requirements, conducting proof-of-concept (POC) tests for critical integration points and scalability.
Selection Recommendation: Provide an objective, data-driven recommendation on the most suitable TMS based on technical fit, future scalability and implementation complexity.
Essential Skills and QualificationsExperience: Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience as a Technical Localization Consultant, Localization Engineer, or similar role.
Internationalization (i18n) Expertise: Deep, practical experience in internationalization best practices for web, mobile, and software development, including handling pseudo-localization, pluralization rules, bidirectional text, and date/time formatting, as well as handling non product content, marketing, support, policy etc, high volume content handling in general.
TMS Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge and implementation experience with leading modern cloud-based Translation Management Systems (e.g., XTM, Smartling, Phrase, Lokalise) up to and including system migration.
Technical Stack Competence:
Strong command of API design and integration (REST/GraphQL).
Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with various localization file formats (e.g., JSON, XLIFF, Gettext)
