Position Overview
Global Language System is currently seeking enthusiastic, professional, and skilled Onsite Interpreters to support a growing client base in Asheville, North Carolina. Interpreters will travel to client locations to provide face-to-face consecutive interpretation services between English speakers and speakers of the target language.
The Onsite Interpreter must process information quickly and accurately, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times. Assignments take place at client facilities, and interpreters must provide their own reliable transportation.
Summary of Position
The Onsite Interpreter is responsible for traveling to scheduled client appointments and accurately rendering spoken messages from the source language to the target language and vice versa using consecutive interpretation. The interpreter must demonstrate strong listening skills, cultural awareness, and professional demeanor while adhering to industry standards and client protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately interpret spoken communication between English and the target language while preserving meaning, tone, and intent.
- Process information quickly and concisely, using correct grammar, syntax, and terminology in both languages.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service, including clear pronunciation, professional voice quality, and courteous communication.
- Apply appropriate terminology and protocols within medical, insurance, financial, and legal settings.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Remain calm, neutral, and objective during sensitive or high-pressure interactions.
- Follow client instructions and Global Language System policies closely.
- Explain cultural concepts when authorized or requested by the client to avoid miscommunication.

Position Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Native or near-native fluency in English and at least one target language
- Excellent listening, memory retention, and note-taking skills
- Strong knowledge of industry-specific terminology (medical, legal, insurance, financial)
- Willingness to engage in ongoing training and glossary development
- Ability to remain neutral, objective, and culturally sensitive
- Strong professionalism, punctuality, and reliability
- Ability to travel to client sites using reliable transportation
- Ability to explain cultural nuances when appropriate and authorized
