GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The localization department is divided into two teams: one for translation, and the other for reworking the translated text to make it more suitable for the game's story.
This position’s main responsibility will be translating Japanese text into English for games released in the United States and Europe, while also performing some coordination tasks with licensors to ensure schedules and deliveries are handled on-time.
RPGs are a genre in which NIS America excels, and story development is extremely important. Therefore, we are looking for people who can create words that will give users the same or even more excitement than the Japanese version.
Not only is there a process of translating the text, but there is also a later process that the programmer will do, which is embedding the translated text into the game software program, so the work process will also take this into consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Translate Japanese text into English, being responsible for maintaining the essence of the original Japanese for:
- Game text (script/story, UI, system, graphic text)
- Website text
- Text in the bonus item components (e.g. art books)
- Trailer text
- Communicate with the licensor in Japanese via email and/or video call.
- Coordinate with external parties in Japanese and English.
- Provide on-site directorial support at studios for voice recording sessions if applicable to the assigned project.
- Provide general department support if/when needed.
- Proofread all assigned text assets and suggests project improvements.
- Collaborate internally with other team members to complete projects / Routinely interact with department supervisors and other team members.
- Effectively communicate potential issues or ongoing issues to supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- (Communication, Japanese Language and Literature or related a plus)
- Native level of English and business level Japanese.
- Experience working in a team.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to deadlines.
- Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CAT tools such as MemoQ.
- Have lived in Japan or experience using Japanese on a regular basis.
- Familiarity with AI translation tools and research into effective utilization methods
- Understanding of video game concepts, terms, and gameplay (in particular RPGs).
- Good base of knowledge for gaming industry personalities and publications.
- Knowledge and history of RPGs.
- Interest in Japanese literature.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is typically performed either in an office environment with a moderate noise level or at your home.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to frequently sit and occasionally must stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and may lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include the ability to read and analyze data in hard copy and on a computer screen, measure, or identify using eyesight and adjust vision focus.
- Abilities to communicate verbally and in writing to individuals and groups.
