IHC in Kokomo, Indiana is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bilingual Medical Interpreter who is looking for a rewarding opportunity! Join a dedicated patient-centric team and play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care.
Overview: The Medical Interpreter contributes to IHC’s mission and goals of client satisfaction, quality of care, cost competitiveness, and productivity by ensuring efficient communication between providers, IHC staff, and patients. The Medical Interpreter works closely with other front-office and back-office staff and providers to deliver exceptional customer service to patients in person and over the phone. Works as a front office staff member when not interpreting.
- Translates written and interprets spoken English and Spanish, including medical terminology during patient encounters and phone calls and for written materials
- Functions as a cultural facilitator between patients and providers
- Explain cultural differences or practices to health care providers and patients when appropriate
- Communicate any special patient needs
- Responds to patient requests for general information about health center services
- Call patients to confirm appointments
- Greets clients and visitors to the clinic and assists with the check-in process
- Schedules patient appointments
- Answers phones and accurately directs calls
- Uses and maintains electronic medical records, accurately assembles income documents
- Ensures client information is up-to-date and complete

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
- One year prior administrative experience preferred
- Certification: Completing “Bridging the Gap” medical interpreter training is required within 3 months of hire. Other medical interpreter certifications may be accepted pending HR approval
- Bilingual: Spanish/English, written and spoken, including medical terminology required
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Required to provide education, dates, and any certificates at the time of application
- Interacts with colleagues and patients in a professional manner
- Possess excellent communication skills
