Job Summary
Interprets spoken words from one language into another. May be designated according to language or languages interpreted. May specialize in specific subject area.Translates written words from one language to another. Meets and maintains Interpreter/Translator critiera and competencies as set forth in the Interpreter Career Ladder.
Essential Functions

Interprets spoken passages from one language into another. In consecutive interpreting listens to complete statements in one language, interprets to second, and interprets responses from second into first language. Expresses either approximate or exact interpretation.
Translates documents and material from one language to another, following established rules pertaining to factors, such as word meaning, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Reviews translated documents and material to determine if they meet standards for quality and accuracy and edits as appropriate.
Responds to all customers, sets priorities, gives reports and maintains confidentiality.
Maintains positive working relations with all customers and peers including verbalizing complaints or concerns through appropriate channels and accepting assignment changes or constructive criticism. -
Continuously works to improve as a professional through attendance at staff meetings, mandatory training and compliance with rules and expectations of the department. Participates in self-development programs and directed programs for quality control while maintaining competencies.
Assists with clerical functions of Interpretation Services department as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Basic computer skills including word processing
Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in English and Spanish.
Incumbents will be required to meet Prisma Health interpretation standards within specified time frames.
