Provides medical interpreting services to aid patients and families with Limited English Proficiency in their communication with Lurie Children’s staff regarding health care needs and interventions.
K.S.A.'s:
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
- Experience in multi-cultural or health care setting, and experience with interpretation or translation preferred.
- Spanish language abilities and skills, written and verbal, required. Ability to interpret and translate medical and healthcare terminology from English to the second language.
- Ability to articulate and respond to cultural differences as related to healthcare issues.
- Ability to work in a highly regulated environment with multiple demands.
Job Duties:
- Identifies, assesses and responds to child/ family interpretation needs; understands that this occurs within the broader healthcare context and within the familial context of developmental needs, psychosocial needs, cultural needs and spiritual needs.
- Provides medical interpreting services and translation services for discharge instructions.
- Communicates with members of the health care team to provide optimal services to patients and families.
- Advocates for the language needs of families throughout the continuum of care.
- Keeps accurate stats of all patient encounters.
- Assists with triaging immediate interpreter needs and dispatching interpreters.
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
- Other job functions as assigned.
