Professional Interpreting Services is currently seeking Somali interpreters to act as a conduit between the English and the Somali language. As an independent contractor, you will have the opportunity to render on-site interpreting services for leading healthcare professionals, along with social services and other organizations in a variety of settings.
Important: This is not a full-time employee position. As an independent contractor, you will have the freedom to accept or decline assignments, manage your own schedule, and invoice for services rendered.
Responsibilities
Provide accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation between Somali and English in a variety of settings.
Prepare for assignments by familiarizing yourself with relevant terminology and subject matter.
Comply with standards and ethical guidelines of the role of a professional/interpreter as given during onboarding.
Requirements
Fluent in Somali and English with strong interpreting skills.
Ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations.
Willingness to adhere to a professional code of ethics.
Punctuality and reliability.
Willingness to complete or previous completion of a minimum interpreter-training program. (Equivalent examples: The Community Interpreter, Bridging the Gap).
Ability to use the Interpreter Scheduling System and enter data accurately.
