About The Role
The Creative Director, Copy sets the tone for how Crunchyroll speaks to the world. You’ll be responsible for defining and executing our voice across campaigns, platforms, and day-to-day communications. As the lead for all things copy, you’ll ensure our brand comes through clearly, consistently, and compellingly from bold campaign headlines to the fine print on a landing page.
We’re looking for a creative leader who blends brand strategy with editorial edge someone fluent in internet language and anime, tuned into pop culture, and obsessed with the power of words to shape emotion and identity.
This role lives at the intersection of strategy and craft. You’ll partner closely with creative directors, designers, and marketing leads to shape messaging for shows, initiatives, and the Crunchyroll brand itself. You’ll also oversee copywriters and agencies, ensuring everything we ship feels distinctly Crunchyroll— and true to the spirit of the stories we champion.
Brand Voice & Messaging
- Own Crunchyroll’s voice, tone, and messaging frameworks across all copy touchpoints
- Evolve and adapt brand voice across campaigns, content types, and regional markets
- Create and maintain copy guidelines that help teams write with clarity and consistency
Campaign & Creative Copy
- Develop copy across a wide range of formats: from trailers, ads, and OOH to emails, banners, and product messaging
- Collaborate with designers, marketers, and strategists to craft messaging that elevates campaign ideas and brand storytelling
- Write or guide script development for AV spots, trailers, and content-driven creative
- Translate creative briefs into effective messaging hierarchies, headlines, and calls to action
Execution & Oversight
- Review and edit work from freelance and agency copywriters, providing clear direction and actionable feedback
- Partner with project managers to scope copy needs and align on timelines
- Ensure voice alignment across all written content, including digital, social, ecommerce, and experiential
- Balance campaign deadlines with ongoing day-to-day copy needs from across the org
Cultural Relevance & Innovation
- Stay fluent in digital trends, meme culture, and emerging storytelling techniques
- Advocate for inventive, platform-native messaging that connects authentically with anime fans
- Push creative boundaries while honoring the tone, aesthetic, and cultural impact of the anime we promote
This role is based out of our LA office and works a hybrid schedule.
About You
- 10+ years of copywriting experience, with 4+ years in a senior or lead role
- Strong portfolio showcasing both brand-level thinking and short-form execution
- Expertise in voice development, messaging strategy, and multi-platform storytelling
- Excellent editing skills and sharp attention to detail
- Experience managing or collaborating with writers and/or agencies
- Strong cross-functional communication skills
- Comfortable working across a wide variety of formats and deliverables
- Familiarity with anime and its surrounding communities
- Knowledge of content localization or writing for global audiences

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, employer matched retirement savings, time-off programs, and progressive health benefits and perks.
