The Linguist role is an integral member of the Multicultural Experience team and holds exceptional English-Spanish and Spanish-English linguistic expertise. Under the guidance of the Localization Project Manager and Director of Multicultural Experience, this role is to be responsible for English to Spanish localization projects relating to the financial industry with a focus on insurance, investments and financial education materials. The Linguist takes responsibility for thoughtful translation based on the material at hand and intended audience with a high attention to detail and quality. The Linguist will perform secondary reviews for materials that have already been translated into Spanish by an external vendor.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translate (English-Spanish) and/or proofread (Spanish-English) documents related to financial topics, such as: investments, insurance, financial education, marketing, membership benefits, digital assets, etc.
- Ensure correct tone and style is used based on the intended audience, always aligning with Thrivent’s branding and style guidelines.
- Engage in developing localized creative content by using various translation adaptation techniques.
- Maintain, use and proactively update translation memories and glossaries for all localization projects.
- Juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Regularly consult with Localization Project Manager on project status, obstacles and deadlines.
- Be accountable for any errors/additions/omissions in the translation work and resolve known issues immediately.
- Perform quality assurance tasks on final translations as needed.
- Occasionally serve as Project Coordinator for existing translation projects when needed.
- Advocate for language access and the importance of quality control in the localization space.

This role will interact in a collaborative environment with the department, internal partners/requestors and in some cases direct contact with key business stakeholders during key planning sessions. Influence in this role is accurately performing a translation request from the requestor as it relates to the intended audience, subject matter and final intended use of the materials. This role is considered a functional expert on localization/translation best practices and a thought leader on adequately adapting materials into the target language and the utilization of CAT tools.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Required:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish.
- Knowledge of various Spanish dialects and adapting English to a U.S./Neutral Spanish.
- Experience translating and proofreading financial industry related materials.
- Previous transcreation experience.
- Ability to support multiple translation projects at a time with accurate status tracking.
- Adherence to project timelines and delivery dates.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Solid experience with MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud suite and CAT Tools.
- Ability to accept feedback and use it advantageously on future tasks.
- Must be self-motivated, highly organized, able to work independently and to multi-task.
- Must be willing to learn new things, be open to challenges and thrive on team success and collaboration.
Preferred:
- Fluency in multiple languages (in addition to Spanish and English).
- Prior experience as a Localization Project Manager or Localization Project Coordinator.
- InDesign file creation/adaptation experience.
- Prior experience translating digital assets (mobile apps/external websites).
- Passion for language access and multicultural communications.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $77,988.00 - $105,514.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
