Job Summary
VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation), is looking for a Localization Producer to support the localization and production of VIZ's anime projects. This position independently oversees the complete production process and ensures the timely delivery of all localized production elements, with duties including project management, providing creative supervision to vendors, and coordinating communications with internal cross-functional teams, vendors, and content partners.
What you'll do:
- Independently lead and plan, execute, and deliver complex multi-language localization projects under tight deadlines with little oversight while aligning with internal Animation Production team members, partners, and vendors, supported by Localization management
- Evaluate, prepare, and coordinate resources and assets required for localization, collaborating with cross-functional teams, partners, and vendors to ensure their timely receipt and delivery.
- Create scope of work and production schedules. Monitor and track progress against milestones and due dates while keeping all stakeholders informed.
- Identify critical paths for localization deliverables and any project risks. Proactively create contingency plans for risk management and escalate any critical issues to Localization Management.
- Oversee all aspects of the subtitle and dubbing creation, including creative guidance and quality control in collaboration with Animation Production teams.
- Manage localization requests from other departments. Those include, but are not limited to, document translation, copy creation, and transcription.
- Contribute, develop, define, and document best practices, efficient workflows, SOP's, and production documents.
The ideal candidate has:
- 5+ years of localization project management in media & entertainment, directly at localization/dubbing studios, post-production, or in digital media.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of dubbing and subtitling processes, production workflows, and digital assets (video, audio, timed-text formats, metadata, etc.)
- Proficient with productivity and collaboration tools (i.e., Google Workspace, Slack, Wrike).
- Experience translating or localizing content from Japanese into English; Professional/intermediate Japanese fluency
- Ability to prioritize tasks and projects effectively with sound judgment in balancing various priorities and making informed decisions
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position.
Additional preferred skills/knowledge:
- Familiarity with manga, animation, and anime titles.
- Experience with production software, tools, and technology (Adobe Premiere/edit tools, subtitling/caption & QC software, or similar tools)
Work Environment & Schedule
Location: The Localization Producer position is open to candidates local to the San Francisco Bay Area or remote candidates within California. If local to San Francisco, the candidate should expect to work onsite at least once per week. If remote, the Localization Producer should expect to travel a few times a year to VIZ Media headquarters in San Francisco.
Schedule: This is a Regular Full-Time position (40 hours per week) with core hours of 10 am to 4 pm with some flexibility as needed.
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience, with additional variable compensation
