Job Opening: Remote Sign Language Interpreter for Elementary Student

Job Type: Independent Contractor (Part-Time)

Pay Rate: $37 - $43 per hour (based on experience)

About the Position:
We are hiring a compassionate and skilled Remote Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary school student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). This part-time position offers the opportunity to work remotely and provide 1:1 support throughout the 2024-2025 school year, with the possibility of continuing into the following year. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with virtual interpretation and be passionate about enhancing educational access for DHH students.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 Interpretation: Facilitate communication between the student and educator across subjects, such as Reading, Math, and Writing.
Support Schedule:
- Morning:
  - 8:40 AM - 10:00 AM: Assist with Calendar, Reading, and Small Group activities
  - 10:30 AM - 11:40 AM: Math and Writing lessons interpretation
- Afternoon:
  - 12:50 PM - 1:30 PM: Facilitate Choice Time-Centers with DHH students
  - 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM (4 days per month): Additional support as needed
Remote Access: Receive ongoing clinical and technical assistance for any challenges that may arise.

Required Qualifications:

Must possess a Wisconsin DPI Educational Interpreter License.
A minimum 3.3 EIPA score is required.
2+ years of experience with virtual interpreting, preferred.
Previous experience working with elementary school students is essential.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is a must.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, educators, and school staff.
Familiarity with remote work tools and virtual platforms for interpreting.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday, with outlined hours.
Flexible scheduling required for additional hours (4 days per month) from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM.
