Duties
- Provide real-time interpretation services across multiple languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), in diverse environments such as medical appointments, legal proceedings, community events, or business meetings.
- Translate spoken or signed language accurately and fluently, ensuring the message’s intent and tone are preserved.
- Facilitate effective communication between bilingual or multilingual individuals by interpreting both verbal and non-verbal cues.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpretation activities.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology, cultural considerations, or subject matter specifics.
- Collaborate with clients and organizations to understand their specific language needs and tailor services accordingly.
- Keep detailed records of assignments, including date, location, language pair, and any relevant notes or feedback.
- Continuously update language skills through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- Multilingual proficiency with fluency in at least two languages, one must be english; proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in translation and interpretation across various settings such as healthcare, legal, social services, or community programs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey messages clearly and accurately under pressure.
- Knowledge of linguistics principles and cultural sensitivities related to the languages served.
- Bilingual individuals with certification or formal training in interpretation are preferred but not mandatory; however, a strong command of both languages is essential.
- Ability to work independently with excellent time management skills to handle multiple assignments efficiently.
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
- Reliable access to necessary technology for remote interpretation (if applicable) or willingness to travel to designated sites as required.
